Pakistan, US discuss strengthening bilateral ties

Acting Chairman of the Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar met a three-member delegation from the United States Embassy, led by Political Counselor Ms Shelley A. W. Saxen, at the Parliament House on Tuesday. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including international politics, regional and global economic trends, peace and stability, the prevailing security situation and effective utilisation of resources. Speaking on the occasion, Syedaal Khan Nasar said Pakistan attaches great importance to its bilateral relations with the United States. He added that due to the incumbent government’s effective diplomacy, Pakistan–US relations had further strengthened and were based on mutual respect, trust and shared interests.
The acting chairman said US President Donald Trump held Pakistan in high regard and that recent meetings between President Trump, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir were held in a cordial and positive atmosphere. He paid tribute to the role played by the US president during periods of Pakistan–India tensions, saying his initiatives helped avert escalation and saved millions of lives. Highlighting Pakistan’s fight against terrorism, Syedaal Khan Nasar said the country had made immense sacrifices, losing thousands of lives and suffering economic losses worth billions of dollars. He noted that Pakistan remained among the countries most affected by terrorism and that counter-terrorism operations were continuing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He stressed that the international community should acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices and extend further cooperation.
He said Pakistan offered vast investment opportunities and urged American companies to invest in the country to strengthen bilateral economic and commercial ties. He also emphasised the importance of parliamentary exchanges to enhance mutual trust and cooperation.
The acting chairman invited the US delegation to visit Balochistan and assured them of full security arrangements and the hospitality of the people of the province. He also appreciated the democratic traditions and dialogue-based political system of the United States.
Members of the US delegation conveyed their best wishes to the acting chairman and reaffirmed that the United States placed high importance on its relations with Pakistan. The US political counselor acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and said efforts would be made to inform American companies about investment opportunities in Pakistan across various sectors.
The delegation reiterated its commitment to continued cooperation with Pakistan and appreciated the country’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
