Afghan Taliban and the TTP are “two sides of the same coin.”
Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani, Afghan acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, has made a startling revelation in a documentary released today, of how the former leader of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Baitullah Mehsud, secured his release after having been arrested in Pakistan, along with that of other high ranking Taliban leaders including top aides of Mullah Omar; Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Osmani and Haji Mali Khan, Naseeruddin Haqqani and others, in an exchange of more than 300 Pakistani troops that had been detained by him. Pertinent to note that Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani is the uncle of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban deputy Supreme Leader and acting Afghan Interior Minister while Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Osmani was among the top three aides of Mullah Omar, the founding leader of Afghan Taliban, while Haji Mali Khan is currently serving as the Afghan Deputy Chief of Army Staff.
