India’s ‘Made in India’ campaign gets a huge setback

The poor performance of locally manufactured tanks, artillery, air defence, and other weapons and ammunition has resulted in a significant number of incidents, which has alarmed the Indian Army.

The research claims that India is lagging behind other countries in both the quantity and quality of its domestically produced ready-made weaponry. The Indian Army ordered 100 K-Nin Vajra self-propelled howitzers from South Korea in May 2017.

Ninety of the units were produced under the Made in India label; however, the locally produced units proved to be defective, the made in India INSAS rifles also became an embarrassment for India worldwide.

In the year 2023, two Indian Air Force planes crashed in Uttar Pradesh due to a technical fault. The Indian Army informed the Ministry of Defense that there is an alarming increase in ammunition-related accidents leading to casualties, injuries and loss of equipment.
