Is India heading towards caste-base rule ?
In India, discrimination against lower caste Hindus and minorities has become a hallmark of the Modi government.
Recently, BJP MP and Dalit leader Ramesh Jigajinagi expressed strong displeasure with Modi and the BJP for not being given a ministerial position.
Ramesh Jigajinagi claimed that most central ministers belong to higher castes, saying,
“I was warned about BJP and Modi’s hatred for the lower caste, but I did not pay attention.”
BJP is an anti-Dalit party that has sidelined Dalits, according to Jigajinagi.
“Didn’t Dalits vote for the Modi government?” he questioned.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also criticized Modi, stating,
“The Modi government wants a country without Dalits and backward classes, where only high caste people can rule.”
According to an Indian news website, recruitment in the Indian army is done based on caste, religion, and community, with caste certificates required during the process.
The US State Department also expressed severe concerns this year about human rights violations and atrocities against minorities in India.
Modi’s growing sectarian mindset poses a significant threat to minorities and lower caste Hindus in India, prompting the need for action from global institutions.
