Foreign weapons Fueling Terrorism

– The persistent use of foreign weapons by terrorists against #Pakistan on Pakistani soil, originally brought from #Afghanistan, has once again raised concerns about the security situation in the region.

– The Pakistan Army, engaged in a two-decade-long battle against the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), faces a significant challenge as evidence points to the availability of US-supplied weapons in the hands of these militants.

– The aftermath of the #US withdrawal from Afghanistan has witnessed a surge in the TTP’s and other terrorist’s groups access to sophisticated weaponry, posing a grave threat to regional security.

– Recent incidents, such as the December 31 confrontation in Bajaur district, highlight the gravity of the situation, with three terrorists killed by security forces wielding American-made M4 Carbine and other weapons.

– The issue is not isolated, as similar occurrences have been documented, showcasing the TTP’s exploitation of foreign arms. The recovery of M-4 Carbine, AK-47, and ammunition in North Waziristan on December 29, resulting in the elimination of five terrorists including Rahzeeb Khore, underscores the persistent challenge.

– Previous attacks, including those by the #Baloch Liberation Army in Nushki and Panjgur districts in February 2022, as well as the TTP’s assault on Zhob Garrison using American weapons on July 12, 2023, depict a pattern of foreign weapons being used against Pakistani security forces.

– The Mianwali Air Base attack on November 4, where RPG-7, AK-74, M-4, and M-16/A4 were recovered, and the Daraban area incident on December 12 involving night vision goggles and American rifles further emphasize the grave implications of this trend.

– In a tragic incident on December 15 in Tank, terrorists armed with modern American weapons martyred three police personnel. The recovered M16/A2, HE Grenades, and AK-47 once again highlight the sophisticated weaponry at the disposal of these militants.

– Alarming reports of smuggling advanced American weapons from #Afghanistan to #Pakistan have surfaced, including a December 13 incident where customs and security forces seized modern American-made weapons hidden in onion sacks.

– The concerning nexus between the Afghan Government and these terrorist’s groups and the continuous supply of advanced arms to these groups, especially the TTP, raises serious questions.

– The usage of US-made weapons in TTP operations, as reported by Eurasian Times, adds complexity to the situation.

– The Pentagon’s revelation of delivering a substantial number of combat weapons to the Afghan military, with a significant amount remaining at the time of withdrawal, underscores the magnitude of the issue.

– The $18.6 billion worth of equipment provided to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces by the United States between 2005 and August 2021 has inadvertently fueled terrorism in the region.

– As the TTP leverages these weapons for cross-border terrorist attacks, the collective impact of these facts paints a disturbing picture. – The implication that the Afghan regime is not only arming the TTP but also providing a safe haven for other terrorist organizations underscores the urgency of addressing this multifaceted challenge for the stability of the entire region.
