Pakistan, Venezuela reaffirm friendship, eye new economic avenues

Pakistan and Venezuela have agreed to broaden economic cooperation and strengthen people-to-people contacts, with both sides identifying trade, investment, business, agriculture and information technology as key areas for expanded collaboration.

The understanding was reached during a telephone call between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Venezuela’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Relations and Foreign Trade, Félix Plasencia, according to a press release issued.

The two leaders reviewed the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to further consolidating bilateral ties, while also noting continued coordination between Islamabad and Caracas at multilateral forums on issues of shared interest.

Ishaq Dar congratulated Félix Plasencia on his appointment and conveyed Pakistan’s condolences over the recent earthquakes in Venezuela, reaffirming Islamabad’s solidarity with the Venezuelan government and people during the difficult period and voicing confidence in the country’s recovery.

The Venezuelan minister thanked Ishaq Dar for Pakistan’s message of sympathy, calling mutual support in times of need important for bilateral relations.

He also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in encouraging dialogue and de-escalation amid regional tensions between the United States and Iran, commending Islamabad’s commitment to peace and diplomacy.

Both ministers agreed to remain in close contact and to meet at the earliest suitable opportunity.
